Longhorn FC have not won a single match this season. Seven games, seven losses, zero points. And the frustrating part is that it is not because they look outclassed every week. They compete. They have spells where they play the right way. They create chances. They score goals. But the same problem keeps showing up in different forms.
They cannot finish matches.
The standings make it blunt. Longhorn are last with 0 points, 11 goals scored, 28 goals conceded, and a goal difference of minus 17 after 7 matches. That is an average of 1.6 goals scored per game, but 4 goals conceded per game. You simply cannot survive in a title race with that kind of defensive bleeding, no matter how well you play in moments.
The attack is not the issue
Longhorn have production, and the player stats show it.
Guillermo Sanchez is carrying real weight with 4 goals and 1 assist. Melvin Jaramillo is right behind with 3 goals and 1 assist. Julian Segura has chipped in with a goal, and Jay Hernandez and Brandon Carballo have each added one. On the creativity side, the assists are spread across multiple players, with Guillermo Sanchez, Carlos Zuniga, Armando Jaramillo, Melvin Jaramillo, Sajid Mohammad, and Denalie each recording an assist.
That balance tells you something important. Longhorn are not completely toothless. They are getting people involved. They are finding ways to score. The issue is what happens after they score, and what happens when the game tightens.
The pattern that is sinking them
Longhorn are losing games they are close enough to win.
They lost 3 to 2 against Houstonians FC. They lost 3 to 2 away at University of Houston. Those matches are the definition of “one moment flips it.” Even when they manage to put two goals on the board, they still give up three. That is not bad luck. That is game management, defensive structure, and concentration.
Then there are matches where the wheels come off. They conceded seven against Houston Lions in a 7 to 3 loss. They conceded four against AC Juniors and Vinotinto. They conceded four again against Real Houston FC. Every match has the same headline underneath it: Longhorn are letting opponents create too many clean looks, too many big chances, and too many momentum swings.
When a team keeps conceding three or more goals every week, it usually points to one of three things, and sometimes all three at once.
One, the team is too stretched in transition, so one lost ball becomes a direct counterattack.
Two, the defensive line and midfield are not connected, so opponents find pockets between the lines and run at the back four.
Three, the team loses control of key moments, especially after scoring or right before the half, when concentration should be highest.
Longhorn’s season reads like a mix of all three.
Why this is dangerous now
The league is tight at the top. Houston Lions lead with 14 points. Ghosttown Saints have 13. Then a huge pack sits on 12 points, including AC Juniors, Houston FC, Ballers HFA, and Little United FC. Most teams are beating each other, trading points, and keeping the door open.
Longhorn are not even in the room yet.
Seven matches without a point is not just a slow start. It creates pressure that changes how you play. Teams start chasing games earlier. Mistakes become heavier. Confidence drops. The margins feel cruel.
And the schedule does not get easier.
This weekend is a reality check and an opportunity
Longhorn FC play Little United FC this Sunday, Feb 1 at 4:00 PM.
Little United are on 12 points with 20 goals scored, so they can punish any team that loses control defensively. But they have also conceded 23 goals, which means chances will be there if Longhorn play with courage and stay organized.
For Longhorn, the target should be simple and non negotiable. They do not need a perfect performance. They need a complete performance.
They need to score, then stay compact. They need to manage the next five minutes after every goal like it is the most important stretch of the match. They need to stop giving away the easy goals that erase good work.
Because right now, Longhorn FC are not losing because they cannot play. They are losing because they cannot close.
If they do not fix that soon, the season will slip away before the table even has time to settle.
